Mark Butterworth, co-founder and director of BDB Special Projects Ltd., brings over 30 years of comprehensive industry experience to the company. Mark plays an active role in every facet of the business, from initial estimating to the final delivery of contracts, ensuring the long-term success and sustainable growth of the organisation.
Throughout his career, Mark has gained expertise in both traditional and modern construction, civil engineering, and structural repair techniques, working across a wide range of market sectors. With 24 years of specialist experience in structural concrete repairs, surface coatings, cathodic protection, bridge expansion joints, and waterproofing, Mark has delivered complex projects for numerous high-profile clients. His career journey, from an apprentice to senior management, reflects his deep understanding of health and safety, project planning, and site management on both local and national levels.
In his personal time, Mark enjoys spending time with family and friends and passionately supports Manchester City Football Club.
At BDB Special Projects, the strength of our company is built on the foundations laid by our three directors, who bring a wealth of experience and dedication to the civil construction industry. With over a combined century of expertise, their leadership and hands-on approach have been instrumental in building BDB into a company known for its "can-do" attitude, delivering high-quality solutions to clients across a variety of sectors.

Our directors have dedicated their careers to civil engineering and construction, honing their skills over decades of work on some of the most complex and challenging projects. Their vast experience ensures that every project we undertake is approached with a deep understanding of the industry’s best practices, ensuring seamless project delivery from start to finish. This longevity allows them to anticipate challenges, optimise workflows, and implement innovative solutions that benefit both clients and stakeholders.
Zoe has been working for BDB Special projects as their HR & Admin Manager since September 2018. She has 15 years’ worth of experience in Human Resources in a variety of industries, including manufacturing, public relations and construction and is a strong believer in the power of positive thinking in the workplace.
Zoe is passionate about helping businesses make the most of their resources and talent and find ways to improve processes and develop policies. She also has a keen interest in employee wellbeing and mental health within the workplace.
Alongside her HR career, Zoe likes to spend time with her family and loves to travel.
Patrick has been working for BDB Special Projects as their Contracts Manager since February 2019. After graduating with an MEng in Civil Engineering at Newcastle University in 2000 he has nearly 19 years’ experience in the Construction Industry.
Upon graduation, Patrick joined a Main Contractor working in the construction sector as a Site Engineer, progressing to Section Engineer, Sub-Agent, Site Agent, Project Manager followed by Contracts Manager. Patrick has successfully carried out these roles working for both main contractors and sub-contractors. He has been involved in most aspects of Civil Engineering works including RC works, roads and sewers, drainage, Section 278 works, general groundworks and external works and has also worked within the Nuclear Industry.
Patrick is hardworking, organised, resourceful, helpful and likeable with a professional, positive attitude and approach to all projects undertaken. A keen motivator who will always try to see the positive in people and doesn’t like to give up easily.
When not overseeing projects reaching a successful conclusion for all parties involved, Patrick enjoys spending time with his family, playing football – and fantasy football!! – and supporting Blackburn Rovers through thick and thin!
Craig Hall has been an instrumental part of BDB Special Projects since its inception in August 2018, working alongside Ben Dobson and Mark Butterworth to establish the company. With nearly 30 years of Quantity Surveying experience, Craig has gained extensive expertise working with both Main Contractors and Sub-Contractors, giving him a unique perspective on the complexities and challenges within the construction industry.
Craig's approach is defined by his proficiency, organisation, and methodical nature. He is committed to ensuring that projects are managed commercially with efficiency and professionalism. By working in a non-aggressive, collaborative manner, Craig ensures that accounts are substantiated and finalised at the earliest opportunity, contributing to smooth project delivery. In addition to his commercial management responsibilities, Craig plays a key role in estimating and business development, helping to secure long-term success for BDB Special Projects.
Outside of work, Craig is an avid outdoorsman who enjoys spending time with his family, hill walking, running, and cycling.

Ben Dobson, co-founder and director of BDB Special Projects Ltd., plays a crucial role in the company’s operations, from project estimation to successful contract execution. Ben's focus lies in ensuring the sustainable growth of the business while consistently exceeding customer expectations by delivering first-class services based on trust, reliability, and high standards of safety and quality.
With over 25 years of experience in construction and civil engineering, Ben's career began in his family's building and joinery business, which ignited his passion for the industry. He has since held roles in main contracting, gaining valuable skills in estimating, commercial management, project planning, and site management. Ben’s progression from Site Engineer to Contracts Manager is testament to his keen eye for detail, strategic thinking, and dedication to delivering successful projects for both main contractors and sub-contractors.
Outside of work, Ben enjoys family time and is also an enthusiastic coach at his local junior football club, nurturing young talent aged 3 to 6 years old.
